Ua Si, Ua Si is the book that I have been waiting to write since my chubby and adorable second daughter was born. I wrote this book because I want my kids to be able to speak with their grandparents. Why you ask? Because, I know that every time my daughter says, “Tais, kuv xav noj mov," it puts the biggest smile on my mom's face. I want for my parents to know that they are appreciated and loved. I want them to know that we value them. One of the best ways for me to let them know these things is to simply speak in Hmong and to have my daughters do the same. In addition, I want for my children to know their cultural roots because, in order to go forward, you need to know where you came from.
Ua Si, Ua Si isn't just another children's book. Every night before I put my daughters to sleep, I read to them... but, I'm tired of the fact that none of the characters look like them. I want to let my children know that they're special and that being Hmong is beautiful. I've searched far and wide for Hmong children's books, but there just aren't many available.
I made this book with hopes that parents would be able to share the Hmong language with their children and that children would gain so much more than just exposure to the Hmong language.
Making this book has been a dream come true for me. I hope that this book will help you not only share the beauty of the Hmong language with the little ones in your life, but they will be able to connect loved ones in ways they couldn’t before.
